Last days in Tunisia

Otto and I went back to Hammamet on Thursday to visit their weekly market. We found it on the outskirts of the town in an open field. I have never seen so many clothing vendors (piles of clothes on tables or the ground) along with crowds of locals making their purchases. The clothes were in such a jumble that couldn't quite determine if the clothes were new or not. I suspect though that they were not. Along side the clothes were fruit and vegetable vendors. It was not easy negotiating the narrow aisles and the people with their full shopping bags.

On our way, we saw clementine trees.

A bakery in town. The majority of the breads are round.

Okay, so we had to do the typical tourist thing--ride a camel. The head wear is for the heat and dust, of which there were neither today. We took about an hour ride (lead by a young guy) up in the hills which gave us a great view of the towns along the sea. It was a gentle ride, but we really did have to hold on when the ground was uneven or when going downhill. When we came back we were served very strong mint tea and a honey and date type pastry.

  1. This looks like a great trip - love the tiles, the fruit trees, and the camel ride. We ate the prickly pears when we lived in Mexico, I remember ice cream made from them. Look forward to swapping travel stories in a few months.
