On Thursday, Sept. 2, Anna and Isabelle reconnected with the family that Anna stayed with last January when we returned to Grand Rapids before Christmas. Marie, Anna's age and Blandine, Isabelle's age, both played in the city band together last year and will this year too. They decided to make cupcakes together followed by some card games and scrabble. This was pushing their linguistic limits a bit (less so for Anna than for Isabelle), yet they said it was fun and was worth the effort.
Cupcakes are not very French! Yet, not far from our apartment, a small boutique, an American/British venture, has been successful. One can buy cupcakes, make cupcakes and even have "learn how to make cupcake parties" there.
